It was with great delight that Little Artists welcomed Prof. G A Dandekar one of the top contemporary painters in India, to its studio on Aug 8 & 9, 2007.

Born 1949 in Maharashtra, India, Prof. G.A. Dandekar is a faculty member of Sir J.J. College of Applied Art in Mumbai, India. As a painter, Prof. Dandekar tries to encapsulate his memory into his canvases. These memories are depicted within a number of colourful human subjects, reflective of his youth in the vibrant city of Sangli, Maharashtra. He captures not only their distinct wardrobes and vivid colours, but also their emotive expressions and moods. Prof. Dandekar’s paintings are well-known to have caught the verve and rhythm in the lives of regular village people. Through his works, Prof. Dandekar is able to communicate instantly with the average viewer, leaving them often with a lingering feeling of colour, good cheer, music and dance in a rural milieu.

Prof. Dandekar has been teaching arts and paintings since 1973. He has done several solo shows including the Jehangir Art Gallery, Nehru Centre Art Gallery and Maharastra Seva Sangh. His work has also been featured in several group shows in India, mainly Mumbai, Chennai and Delhi. His recent paintings were displayed in an exhibition of 50 leading contemporary Indian artists. Prof. Dandekar has also been interviewed on Indian Television numerous times and also participated in several invited and sponsored shows. He has been commissioned by several organizations including the Union Bank of India, Mumbai among many others. He has done murals for the Videsh Sanchar Nigam and Definace Knitting Industries, and in addition, his works are in the private collection of several art appreciators internationally e.g. U.S.A, Switzerland, Germany, Singapore and India.
